Tools of the trade

What I shoot with

A practical backyard setup built around a smart telescope, with a DSLR kit for wide-field work. The equipment keeps changing as I learn, but these are the tools behind the images on this site.

01 / DEEP SKY

Seestar S30 Pro

  • All-in-one smart telescope
  • Alt-Az capture for quick sessions
  • Built-in dual-band filter
  • Individual FITS frames saved

My main instrument for nebulae and galaxies from the backyard.

02 / EQUATORIAL

Tracking setup

  • Seestar TH10 equatorial head
  • Seestar TC20 carbon-fiber tripod
  • Longer 60-second exposures
  • Careful polar alignment

The EQ configuration lets me explore longer sub exposures and a different capture workflow.

03 / WIDE FIELD

Canon DSLR kit

  • Canon EOS Rebel T5i
  • Rokinon 14mm f/2.8
  • Canon EF-S 18–55mm
  • Canon EF-S 55–250mm
  • Neewer intervalometer
  • Jackery Explorer 300

For wide-field nightscapes and learning the fundamentals of tracked camera astrophotography.

04 / FIELD SUPPORT

Out under the sky

  • K&F Concept tripod
  • Neewer USB dew heater
  • Dummy battery for the T5i
  • Extra camera batteries

Small practical details make a difference when a clear night stretches past bedtime.

05 / PROCESSING

My processing workflow

  • StackingWizard · stacking and integration
  • AstroWizard · my main image-processing workflow, including GraXpert
  • RC-Astro Tools · StarXterminator, BlurXterminator, and NoiseXterminator within AstroWizard
  • Photoshop · final adjustments and finishing

These are the tools I use most. Siril, StarNet, Lightroom, and other processing apps are alternatives I may use for some images.
